STATESBORO, Ga.- Robert Coleman Scruggs, age 73, of Statesboro, Ga. , passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Scruggs was born in Panama City, FL., and moved to Statesboro in 1948. He graduated Statesboro High School and was a 1965 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1975, he...

STATESBORO, Ga.- Robert Coleman Scruggs, age 73, of Statesboro, Ga. , passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Scruggs was born in Panama City, FL., and moved to Statesboro in 1948. He graduated Statesboro High School and was a 1965 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1975, he and his family moved to Charlotte, NC, and returned to Statesboro in 1991. Mr. Scruggs was preceded in death by his parents, Sibyl and L.A. Scruggs, and a son, Jonathan Scruggs.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne Darby Scruggs;a daughter, Jeanne Scruggs and her husband, Alan Steinbeck, of Chapel Hill, NC; sons, Lyle and his wife, Laura, of Storrs, Ct., and Steve and his wife, Katie, of Huntersville, NC; a daughter, Jeanne Scruggs and her husband, Alan Steinbeck, of Chapel Hill, NC; nine grandchildren: Benjamin, Zachary, Elizabeth, Julia, Emma, Clara, Evelyn, Charles, and Rosemary; a sister, Brenda Carter and her husband, Harry, of Charleston, SC; and two nieces and a nephew.
The family is grateful for the loving care Bob received at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient facility and at The Gardens at Southern Manor.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 10:00-11:30a.m. in the parlor at Pittman Park United Methodist Church followed by a memorial service in the Pittman Park sanctuary at 12:00 p.m. conducted by Reverend Bill Bagwell.
